    Historical
    – It belongs to vegetable kingdom. Dr. Gatchell proved it.

    Remedy profile
    – This drug has prominent alternating action. It is most suitable for marasmus and rheumatism of children.

    Somatic predilection
    – Children with old face, pale, ‘Tinkled. (Op, Kreos). Great emaciation; skin becomes flabby and hangs in loose folds. (Jod, Nat-rn, Sanic, sarsap). Abdomen bloated, marked emaciation, especially of legs.(Iod, Sanie, Tub.). Head weak

    – cannot hold it up.

    Psychic preponderance
    – Child is ill natured, irritable cross and despondent. Violent, in human, would like to do something cruel.

    Miasm
    – Predominant miasm; sycotic.

    Thermal reaction
    – Chilly.

    Causation
    – Suppressed secretions resulting in rheumatism.

    Organ affinity for
    Serous membrane, general nutrition, Gil’, Joint component.

    Diathesis
    – Marasmus, hydrothorax, ascitis, tubercular peritonitis.

    Characteristics
    – Alternating complaints:
    . Alternate constipation and diarrhoea.
    . Alternate rheumatism and dysentery.
    . Alternate rheumatism with haemorrhoids.
    – Ravenous hunger, loosing flesh while eating well.
    – Desires: Bread, boiled in milk.
    – Serous exudation.
    – Oozing of blood from umbilicus of newborn.
    – Metastasis of mumps to testis.

    General modalities
    Aggravation: Cold air, becoming wet, checked secretions, fog, night.
    Amelioration: Loose stools, motion.

    Clinical
    – Chilblains, Gout, Haemorrhoids, Hectic fever, Boils, 1-lydrocele, Marasmus, Pleurisy, Peritoneal effusion, Rheumatism, Juvenile rheumatoid arthritis.

    CONSTITUTIONAL REMEDY
    Marasinus of children (PCM)
    – Emaciation losing flesh while eating well. Face wrinkled. Skin flabby loose, hangs in folds.
    Head weak – cannot hold it up. Unable to stand. Emaciation of lower extremities.

    Note:
    Whereas Sanicula, Nat-mur. and Lycopodium emaciate from above downwards, Abrotanum emaciates from below upwards.
    Nat-mur. emaciation is most noticeable in the neck.
    Abrotanum emaciation is most noticeable in the legs.

    SYMPTOMATIC REMEDY
    Hydrocele
    – Infantile Hydrocele.
    – Exudative pleurisy.
    – After operation upon the chest for hydrothorax, or empyemia. Pressing sensation remains.
    Mumps
    – Metastasis of mumps to testis.
    Gout
    – Ill effects of suppressed condition. Joint stiff and lame.

    Rheumatism
    – 1H effects of suppressed condition.
    – Pain in shoulders, arms, wrist and ankles.
    – Painful contraction of limbs.
    – Pricking and coldness in fingers and feet.
    – Legs greatly emaciated.
    – Haemorrhoids:
    – Frequent urging; bloody stools; worse as rheumatic pains abate. Back lame.
    – Pain in lumbo-sacral region with hicmorrhoids.
    Chilblains
    – Chilblains itch, frost bitten limbs.
    Diarrhoea
    – Diarrhoea alternating with rheumatism.
    Epistaxis
    – Nosebleed in boys.
    – Post influential neurasthenia:
    – Extreme debility and prostration after influcnza.
    Tubercular peritonitis
    – Ascitis with hectic fever.

    Mental retardation with psychopathic traits
    – Thinking difficult; loss of comprehension. Incapacity for thought; but may be extremely irritable, cross, ill-natured even violent and inhuman; would like to do something cruel. No humanity.
    Worm infestation
    – Destroys worms, especially ascarides.
